Successful start-up of modular 100 MW power station in Sri Lanka.

This power station is located in Embilipitiy, in the South of Sri Lanka. This remarkable power is generated by 14 heavy fuel oil fired gen.-sets which were arranged in two pairs of each 7 generator sets.

The new developed Mains Decoupling Relay MRN3-3 with a “special time undervoltage characteristic according to e.on and VDN*”, additional available with disturbance recorder.

In response of requests by our customers, the XRW1-3 Mains Decoupling Relay was implemented into the High Tech Line as a new type of device with a “special time undervoltage characteristic according to e.on and VDN*”. The recording capacity of the disturbance recorder was extended to 20 seconds as to also allow recording of voltage time curves for a period that is typically used for the Spanish Wind Power Plant business. Opposite to other countries, where the power protection is usually based on the measurement of active power, in Portugal and also in parts of Spain, it is common practice to measure the apparent power. To conform to these requirements, i.e. to be able to offer a suitable protection device to its’ customers, SEG designed the HTL Apparent Power Relay MRP2-S3.

First mains decoupling relay for meeting the new cogeneration rules

In Germany the grid operator e.on and the Association of German network operators VDN demand that cogeneration sets connected to the HV system must not decouple in case of grid fault. There is a need to support the local voltage by the cogenaration sets (like windparks). Therfore the rules define two sets of voltage-time-characteristics.
